He clearly admires the way the Germans performed, or, at least, the way some Germans performed in Normandy but what soldier would not admire the professionalism and tenacity of the Wehrmacht in Normandy in the face of such overwhelming odds? You make Reynolds sound like one of those pro-Nazi types one hears so much about. I'm not sure that one can describe Reynolds as "smitten" in this respect, though. Objectivity is, obviously, an ideal but hard to attain, as you say. We tend to get from a book that which we are looking for and one mans bias is another mans truth.įair points. I never accept an authors concliusions anway and look for quotes or facts in a book that allow me to form my own 'bias'. He is most certainly smitten by his admiration of the German performance in Normandy.
